It may be warm at the moment, but before you turn around, the seasons will shift and winter will be upon us. When winter is just around the corner, your mind may be on other matters such as making sure your vehicle is prepared for harsh temperatures, and the holiday season. It’s unlikely that having a roof inspection is high on your to-do list.

During Ohio winter’s your roof will be experiencing temperatures lower than 30 degrees, and often significant snow and rainfall. It’s important that you get your roof checked before winter really starts to bite, and here are a few reasons why.

Small issues are easier to fix, and are less costly

If your roof has an issue, then winter is the time in which that issue may become a real problem. Any minor problem that is spotted before winter arrives should be relatively inexpensive to fix. Winter weather will not only put your roof at risk, it will also exacerbate any minor issues that you are not aware of.

Think about it, which situation would you rather be in – spending a relatively small amount in the summer to get your roof fixed, or depleting your vacation savings fund completely in the winter to get your roof fixed or even replaced?

It’s easier to spot problems when the weather is nice

Say it’s January and you feel your home is colder than it should be. You venture up to your attic and you find it’s freezing up there, and there’s snow blowing into your attic. You call your local roofing company, they arrive, and they see that your roof is covered in three inches of snow. What are they likely to say to you?

The best time to get your roof inspected is during the summer or early fall, when it is much easier to spot all issues with your roof, no matter how minor. Perhaps there’s a tiny leak, or you have damaged slate tiles. Such issues are easy to fix when the sun is shining.

You need your roof the most during the worst of Ohio’s weather

Your roof has two very important functions during the winter – to keep heat inside of your home, and to keep the cold, rain and snow out. You need to make sure that your roof is fully capable of performing both of these tasks adequately before the weather starts to turn.

If the worst comes to the worst, you may need such an extensive repair that you won’t even be able to live inside your home while required roof repairs are taking place. Can you imagine the upheaval to your life, and the disruption to your holiday plans that such a thing would cause?
